The Next Fantasy Series Will Be…

My Star Kingdom sci-fi series will keep me busy for the rest of the year (I just sent Book 4 off to my editor, and I think there will end up being around eight in the series), but I like to plan ahead, so I’m already starting to think of 2020’s projects.

I’m probably going to write one or two more novels to finish up the long-neglected Rust & Relics series, but I also will want to do something all new. The new stuff is what pays the bills and keeps the dogs rolling in dehydrated pizzle sticks. (Yes, a pizzle is exactly what you think it is… and they love them.)

Since I haven’t decided on anything for sure yet, I thought it would be fun to put up a poll and see what you, the reader, think. These are some of the ideas that I’m kicking around. What sounds the most interesting?

What kind of fantasy series should Lindsay write next?

  • A spinoff series in the Dragon Blood world (48%, 684 Votes)
  • Dragon cozy mysteries set on Earth (with magic... and dragons!) (39%, 558 Votes)
  • A "GameLit" series (something akin to Ready Player One) (13%, 184 Votes)

Total Voters: 1,284

  1. Shlley says:

I am so excited for Rust & Relics!!

    • Taiya says:

      I can’t wait for more R&R!

      • Shelley says:

        More Rust and Relics please.

        • Laura says:

Rust and Relics is perhaps my favorite of your series.

        • Virginia says:

          Hi
Love all your books but stories on dragons are plentifull. What I struggle to find is good exciting sci-fi in space written by a female (it’s mostly male driven genre) that includes love and romance. So Please, stay in space! Maybe you can do a space story, with dragon like creatures and magic and (rust and relics) with some Secarius…. (love that man…)

    • Peyton says:

EE world for me. I would like the loose ends tied up bit like te Fallen Empire series.

    • Dorie says:

More Rust & Relics cannot come soon enough!

  2. Sue says:

Can I vote for all of the above? I really, really want more in the Dragon Blood world, too!

  3. Jean says:

Can’t wait for Rust & Relics! I’d love to see a series on Yanko’s new continent, please. The EE/COH universe has some kick-a$$ female characters. Maybe they can be the leads this time.

    • JoyMD says:

I recently reread all of the Dragon Blood series, and I’m in the middle of the Heritage of Power books… and I find I *need* more Ridge & Sardelle — and Jaxi, of course! And Ahn, and Tolemek, and Kaika, and Angulus, and Tylie, and Phelistoth, and Duck… well, you get the picture. 😁

I’d also be supremely satisfied with a “world collision dinner party” short story where all the major heroes from all the main series end up together (“rules” are meant to be broken if it means Jaxi & Maldynado verbally spar for a few pages!! ❤️)

  4. Barbara Robson says:

I would like more of the sky full of stars. Like to know what happens tp Prince Thorian & Jelena
Also more from Trip & the gang

  5. Donna says:

I would love to see a couple of books exploring the complexities of Maldonado from the Emperor’s Edge series. He has so many layers to him that may help explain the person he has become. Go back to his large warrior caste family upbringing. He played such a major role in the last book “Republic”. We were able to take a peek into his thought processes. Of all of the people on the team, he appears the most shallow but very complex.

    • Chris says:

I agree, I would like to know more about his family, past adventures, etc

      And Akstyr…

    • steven says:

puuulease!! Its true Maldonado was more than he let on, but he was Never deep.
I can see a short story of him going to visit ?”professor”? Akstyr because he is worried he is losing his mojo.

  6. J Estabro says:

I love Emperor’s Edge and want to know what happens next with Akstyr…

  7. Derryn Torrance says:

Would love read more rust and relics as well as dragon blood. But anything with dragons would be awesome.

  8. Ronda says:

Must I choose? They all sound good! As do the comments posted by everybody. But the game is to vote…
    Dragon Blood World.
And more Sky Full of Stars.

  9. Stephen says:

Would love to see more of Trip (Heritage of Power) and his adventures as a Gold Dragon as well as finding out happens to his siblings when they start to grow up, or are grown up. Would be good if Trip had his own children as well.

  10. Tony Mckenzie says:

Hi. Loving your stories and all the other flattery that a author loves to hear. Im 66 and love to have your books on audio. Its just easier to binge read them that way. If I have to read I fall asleep.. LOL Dont have a favourite story line just wished they didn’t have to end… But the everyrhing ends.. or does it?

  11. Louisa says:

Only three choices ??! I agree with all the above comments. Obviously we all miss the EE world. Really enjoyed Sky Full of Stars, need to know how things are going there – does he like Pizza??? Always give me dragons, space and magic.
I think a GameLit series is different from what I’ve read from you (fair to say you are the only author I read so you need to keep my diversity level going) and that is a good challenge.
Please don’t forget Agents of the Crown -Lornish needs to find love. X

  12. Granny says:

Break out! … go for something different!

My interest would lie in recovering the world after an apocalypse. Building a world order after it has been torn down; using low tech tools and high tech knowledge.
    Survival, government, communication and travel.

There are so many things that constitute “civilization” and think of all the diversity in people’s knowledge and intentions.

    • Mandy says:

I like the sound of that!

    • Connie says:

Another one who thinks this premise sounds interesting. You could do something really fun with it! So I guess this is a vote for D. 😮
Dragon cozy mystery could be interesting though…

  13. Sherry F says:

I’m eagerly awaiting some follow up to Rust & Relics, but would be equally happy to see some follow up/spin off’s on our fave Dragon Blood characters. Love those iskandian dragons.

  14. Julia says:

Wonderful you are thinking if writing more Rust and Relics. Can’t wait to read those!

  15. Karen says:

I have enjoyed almost everything you have written.
Magic,Dragons, engineering. Strong storyline and a little romance. Please just keep them coming. My age is 68

    • Angela Somerville says:

Karen, I am almost that myself and I have never enjoyed sci fi and fantasy as much as I have reading Lindsay’s books. What a great storyteller!

    • Stephanie says:

Same here. My vote is for anything with romance!

  16. Virginia Smith says:

I feel like poor Trip and his sibs are just hanging somewhere in your creation space, waiting for their stories to be told—please release them! i know Jaxi would be relieved to have the kids grow past babyhood, haha. And I can’t wait to find out if Shulina Arya finds love…please tell us.

  17. Merryl Woodfin says:

Love rust and relics and then again I love all your books

  18. Angela Somerville says:

Re your new books, I don’t even know what Gamelit is so I couldn’t vote on that. However, I have a feeling anything you write will be well received by your fans. I haven’t read anything of yours that I haven’t enjoyed!

  19. Tony Mckenzie says:

Too many notifications. LOL keep the commenys going I will check occasionally but got to turn of comment follow up

  20. Robert Bohner says:

The problem is, I love all your writing and can’t decide, which is not helpful I know:)
Just write whatever is the most exciting to you because I am sure it will come out great.

  21. Margit says:

I have no idea what Gamelit is – but as I enjoy your stories so much, I‘m sure it’s going to be good! Making a decision IS HARD .. but I’ll go for it! Greetings from Germany!

  22. Laura says:

Hi Lindsay, I’ll devour anything you dish up; I’ve enjoyed all your work. I do feel some dangling story lines with Trip and his siblings like many have stated above, and I feel Jaxi needs her own story….finding the ability to shift and all the horrors/joys of bodily functions and sensations lol. Ridge’s sense of humour coming back at him via his precocious prepubescent magical daughter would also be a riot of a side story in there somewhere!

  23. Kim V says:

Voted for Dragon’s Blood spin off and for dragon cozy but also agree with others – excited about Rust & Relics, and would love to know what happens to Jelena and Prince Thorian!

  24. Ryan R Copeland says:

    Sicarius!

    Maybe Maldonado.

  25. Bentje says:

Oh, finally some more Rust & Relics… great news!
    But actually I’ll read anything you’ll write anyway… 😀
So I’ll be happy as long as there will be new books.

  26. Maria says:

Shalimar the twirly dragon please … she needs love!

  27. Nicola says:

I would like to see more of the Sky Full of Stars

  28. Megan says:

I literally buy every one of your books (on Patreon), and I discovered your writing on Amazon with the Dragon’s Blood series. Of course I would be thrilled with any spin off in that universe, though I voted for something entirely new (dragon mystery cozy with everything I love—dragons&magic) just because I’m excited about what sort of new universe you’ll come up with next! But literally I want every one of these ideas to emerge.

I hope you use them for 2021! Haha

I would especially love a spin off of Heritage of Power’s story line. I want to know about the magical babies!! Haha

  29. Tony Mckenzie says:

Help.. How do I turn off notifications of these comments. Nice as they are just too many coming in?

  30. I have all of your books that I have read – still have some Emperors Edge to go yet – but Ridge and Co remain my favourites so have be number one choice but could happily settle for a new dragon series too. Amazes me how you keep coming up with new ideas – keep it up!!

    • JoyMD says:

OMG! I thought Ridge, Sardelle, and that Universe would always be my favorites, but then I read the EE series and I fell hard in love with Sicarius, Amaranthe, and their stories. Thank the gods we have them all!

  31. Judith urrah says:

Has to be dragons after the Dragons of Pern yours are the best and seems to me there’s lot there still to be told, but also am hoping for more Agents of the Crown and Rust and Relics ,but no matter what you write il to be reading it.

  32. Jane says:

    More Trip pleeeeeeeeease

  33. Keith says:

Hi Lyndsay…..I’m 77 and started reading Fantasy with David Eddings. My taste is unchanged since then and I prefer fantasy and magic (possibly with less dragons). I am not keen space travel.

  34. Marna says:

    Yea!! Rust & Relics!!!!

  35. Kate Eftink says:

Your Emperor’s Edge series was the best series I ever read…. then I read Fallen Empire, and that was the best…. then there was is Dragon blood….. and well I love it too , your voice is just perfect for me. A game lit series is interesting to think about with you telling the story. I have read one game lit series not yet completed and it made me think about cool new ideas. I like that. If you write one some day it will be good.

  36. Kimberly says:

More from the Sky Full of Stars series.

  37. steven says:

How about the adventures of Trip and Ridges kids together? mid to late teens ,Have to rescue parents , get a little help from Rias’s kids? Cameos galore.

  38. Patricia says:

    Sky full of Stars!

  39. adrianne says:

I lean more towards the fantasy series, but I’d like to move into the future or past for these worlds …

Emperor’s Edge world — maybe skipping forward 100yrs or 1000yrs back (exploring the aliens)?
Dragon Blood — going back 200-300yrs and exploring that world

  40. Laura Jean says:

Hellooooooo Lindsay! I’ve voted because you asked, but in all honesty, I know I’m going to love anything and everything you come up with. You gifted me with the wittiest of wit, the snarkiest of snark, and on more than one occasion brought me to tears. I love every bit of your work so far, so I am very confident that I’ll gobble up whatever you write.

  41. Jenn says:

I am dying for more Sky Full of Stars!!! Need more of Thor and Jelena, need to know how their story ends! (And if Leonidas and Alyssa needed to show up for some assistance I would not complain about a cameo lol) But also EE will always have a place in my heart as the first series by you I ever devoured and I would love more from the gang – Sicarius makes my inner fangirl rear her squealy head!

  42. Ross says:

Re: New story line: What if a dragon and a mage must bond a la Pern dragons. Kicker is mage has magic when in his body but dragon is dumb as cattle. When mind/soul/being of mage enters dragon’s mind, loses magic but has size, strength, abilities of dragon but would have to use that body (ex. No hands to open a door). Mage’s body would collapse into coma, how to protect body? Maybe time limit of 24 hours before change is permanent. Who is scarier, mage or dragon. Sort of a magician-weredragon. Lots of possibilities for things to go right or wrong. After checking my 69 year old mind, cannot remember anything like this.

  43. Fred Baumler says:

I agree with all of the replies above. I am enjoying all of you works and am just about finished with all of your stories (only Rust and Relics and a few more of Emperor’s Edge to go.) I will purchase anything you write and enjoy them immensely.
I am hoping for more Sky Full of Stars stories though.

    Thank you!

  44. Karen R says:

I enjoy all of your books, so look forward to whatever you write. But would love more Dragon Blood books, and let me put in a plea for more Chains of Honor books. Thanks for many happy hours of reading!

  45. Maureen says:

Ditto to all of the above. Everything you write has that keen Buroker humour and snark!!! And is very interesting and riveting and fun. R & R first please and then whatever you decide on will be well received by all.

  46. Padfoot Starfyre says:

I feel that the Emperor’s Edge/Forgotten Ages could use a closure. Seeing as that Amaranthe, Sicarius, and Rias were featured in the Chains of Honor, however briefly. Would be nice to see if Amaranthe could successfully bear a child, after the Kyattese healer healed her, and told here to wait 5 years to try. Oh, if Sicarius would actually marry Amaranthe.
A spinoff of Dragon’s Blood would be good too.
I think Rust & Relics has bee been neglected.
For new series, the Gamelit idea might have some potential.

  47. Yarbs says:

Geez. Sky Full of Stars needs more. Rust and Relics needs more.
EE needs more. We need more… As MD said above “Jaxi & Maldynado” need to spar 🙂 Anything along those lines would be Great! More EE would be Sweet!
You could always call Ruby Lionsdrake in to add some of her characters!
Bring it on! Would like to see something from…more grown kids with cameo’s from the parents 🙂 Keep the world that you’ve created Alive! Tie them in some more and I’ll be happy

    • JoyMD says:

Thank you! I’ve been thinking about how amazing a short story would be if the world’s all collided at a dinner party or something: Rias & Tikaya talking to Ridge and Sardelle; Leonidis hanging out quietly with Sicarius and Tolemek… But Jaxi jumping into Maldynado’s head — is probably die of happiness if all my favorites were in one story.

I feel like Ridge & Jev would really get along. Sespian, Maliki, and Jelena could just hang out… I could keep going, but I think the point’s been made. 😁

  48. Mea Locksley says:

    Woo hoo, more R & R, I can’t wait!

  49. HFB says:

EE with babies! 😀 I want to see everyone’s mad parenting skills 😀 Failing that, would love to see what you’d do with an RP1 style.

  50. Cath says:

I very much would like to read a conclusion to Rust & Relics, although I’d probably have to re-read the books that have already been published.

Something else I’d like to read is what happens when the owners of the black ship show up, since, like all good derelict ships, it phoned home when it became active again. I find it to be kind of a loose end in EE.

I was also kind of looking forward to Dak telling Yanko at the end of Great Chief that he could commiserate with Rias about being forced into a job he didn’t want, since neither one of them actually wanted the job and expected someone else (Sespian and Zirabo) to have it at the end of the respective conflicts. Ah, well.

  51. Kirstie says:

Voted for both another Dragon Blood spinoff (Cofahre, perhaps? or Dackrovia?) and the Earth-dragon one, because I’m sure I’d love both or either.

Not a huge fan of gamelit stuff, but I’d probably read it if it was yours ;).

I’m also happy to hear that R&R will be tidied up, but could you please put Ashara and her child retrieval adventure on the docket, too? It niggles me every time I go back and re-read the EE stuff.

  52. Heidi says:

Loved EE and Star Kingdom! Actually all your books are great, but those are my favorites. I agree with the other comments, only three choices…. Maybe the Dragons can lay low for a while and you can explore other storylines? Whatever you decide, I’m sure we’ll love it.

  53. Liesl says:

Oh I agree, more Jelena and Prince Thorian.

I also voted for the cozy mystery as that seems like something fun and I read them all the time.

  54. Claudia Goodman says:

I Love Dragons, Unicorns, Mythical Creatures, Pixies, Elves, Magic and Fantasy. I am a huge fan of your Fantasy work, so I am excited to read what ever you come up with.
I hate when Dragons are the bad guys and hunted and killed.
I also Love happy ending because this world we live in has so many messed up ending!
I also love the Thrill of the ride that takes you to the happy end. It provides Hope.

  55. Kim says:

Would always be happy to read more from Emperor’s Edge also, it was the first of your books that I discovered, will always love

  56. WS says:

Since you’re asking about fantasy and not SF… I voted for the dragon cozy mysteries, but, since the dragon’s blood spinoff is winning, I’d like to reiterate my plea for more Phelistoth.

  57. Jane says:

EE world in 16 years in the future. Sicarius and Amaranthe’s daughter going to the prom. Poor boyfriend. His date’s father is Sicarius the assassin. Her godfather (or would that be ancestors father?) is former president and fleet admiral Starcrest. Her half brother is former Emperor Sespian, and her godmother is Tikaya, head of Imperial intelligence. The poor boy wouldn’t stand a chance. Sicarius opening the door and fondling his knives, “You WILL have my daughter back by 11:00….

  58. Jane says:

EE with dragons. Bhrava Saruth: I agreed to take care of your makarovi problem in exchange for worshippers and offerings. But your black clad mate is having thoughts of killing me.
Amaranthe: He has thoughts of killing everyone.
Bhrava Saruth: His thoughts became especially dark when you mentioned taking me to Curry’s Bakery tomorrow to introduce me to Emperors Buns.
Sicarius glares icily at the dragon.
Bhrava Saruth: I do not believe this dour sweet-hating human will ever worship me.
    Amaranthe: (sigh)….

  59. Debra Ann Meyer says:

Would love more of Jaxi back before she became a soul blade and that time period. She’s my hero!!

  60. Terry Kemp says:

Honestly, anything you write has me hooked but more dragon blood please, the sword interaction is brilliant!!

  61. Chuck says:

I am really enjoying the Dragon Blood series and a continuation or spin-off would be great!
