Blood Charged Is out & Enter to Win a Signed Paperback of Republic

The latest adventure with Sardelle, Ridge, Tolemek, and Cas is out, the third novel in the Dragon Blood series. You can grab it at Amazon, Smashwords, Barnes & Noble, and Kobo (Apple coming soon).

BloodChargedCoverForWebSardelle Terushan, sorceress and healer, should be lying low. Magic is forbidden in Iskandia, and magic users are drowned, shot, or otherwise slain. The problem? She’s fallen in love with ace fighter pilot and national hero, Colonel Ridge Zirkander, a man whom everybody notices, including the king. It’s not long before Sardelle has spies dogging her steps and people trying to blow her up. Worse, her presence is jeopardizing Ridge’s career. If she can’t find a solution to the nation’s centuries-old hatred of magic, the only way to protect Ridge—and herself—may be to leave.

Ridge Zirkander isn’t used to worrying about more than shooting down Cofah airships and keeping the officers in his squadron alive, but his world has gotten more complicated since giving his heart to Sardelle. It’s difficult to keep people from noticing a mysterious and enigmatic woman, not to mention her chatty sentient sword. He’s been passing her off as an archaeologist to his fellow pilots, but when the king calls him in to a private meeting, Ridge fears his secret has been discovered.

But the king—and the rest of the country—has a greater problem. Cofah military scientists have acquired something that shouldn’t exist in the world any longer: dragon blood. In addition to having countless mysterious properties, it’s a powerful energy source that can be used to create devastating weapons. Ridge, Sardelle, and their allies must travel to the empire as part of a secret strike force to steal the dragon blood. If they fail, the Cofah will finally have the power to destroy all of Iskandia.

I have ten books to give away!

  1. C. Nault says:

Nice to see it up 🙂 I’Ll get to it as soon as I finish with the current one!

  2. André Dias says:

yes, finally! I still haven’t finished up the second book in this series – honestly, it just didn’t grab me as much as the first – but I plan to do so when I’m on vacations.

  3. Anastasia says:

Woo!!! I know what I’m reading tonight! My favorite character is Sardelle, I love an intelligent, butt kicking heroine!

  4. Jamie says:

    I am really liking Cas!

  5. KYu says:

My fave is definitely Jaxi 😛

  6. Mark Featherston says:

Whose my favorite character? I don’t know yet, I haven’t started the series yet. I am, however, a big fan of Lindsay’s other work so I’m looking forward to reading this series too. I may wait till all the books are written, at least for this story arc, because there’s few things worse than waiting for the next book in a series! George R. R. Martin I’m looking at you…

    • Sharon Harrill says:

I agree! Have not started this series yet. Tried to comment for the contest…..logged in to facebook and comment box was there and logged in but would not let me leave a comment, nor will it let me log out. Favorite EE character is Sicarius.

  7. Sierra K says:

You’re probably the best steampunk author I’ve come across. I read Flash Gold on wattpad and it was very inspiring. 🙂 Your novel is very

  8. Sumiko Keay says:

Wow, that is a tough question because for me the characters are what make the series.

I guess I have to say that I love Amaranth – she holds it all together. The group wouldn’t exist without her.

(Although as an animal lover, Trog holds a special place in my heart too.)

  9. Flybynite says:

I wasn’t able to post a comment on the entry, but I love Amaranthe! The Emperor’s Edge series is one of my absolute favorite series, that I have read and reread (and reread).

  10. Dorien says:

I suppose my favorite character changes with every book I read. For the EE world, it’s Sicarius especially in the later books, when that dry humor comes through a bit more.

In the dragon blood world it’s definitely the sentient sword. Time to go read the next book.

  11. Kara says:

    Favorite Character?
Depends on the series! I love Amaranthe and Sicarius but if I really want humor I tend to hunt down Maldynado’s lines 🙂

I really like Caslin and Jaxi, but Zirkander is a top contender too!

  12. Lauren says:

I’m hoping for more Tolemek – I love all the layers to his character – although all of the Dragon’s Blood principals are pretty darn awesome. I’d definitely rather see more from this world than from Torrent. Off to Amazon now!

  13. Christy says:

Jaxi…definitely Jaxi. I am LOVING this new series! In other news, I am half-way through my first re-read of Republic, and I am enjoying it even more than the first time I read it. There are few things better than man-eating plants AND hard cider!

  14. Bobbi says:

My favorite is definitely Amaranthe. She’s brilliant and hilarious and exactly the kind of person I wish I could be! (I also have to name Tara as an honorable mention since she’s basically a modern, more girly version of Amaranthe.)

I haven’t started the Dragon’s Blood series. Why? I have NO idea. After reading the blurb again just now, I know what I’ll be doing tonight!! (And tomorrow)

  15. Sarretta says:

I loved the first 2 books and am so excited to get the third! I’m “heading” to Amazon now!

  16. Hannah says:

If you are referring to “Blood Charged”, then I don’t have a favorite character. I haven’t read the series yet but will be sure to check it out! BUT if you are talking about the Emperor’s Edge series (I apologize in advance for the paragraph you are about to read), then my favorite character by FAR would have to be Ameranthe. While I am naturally biased toward the main character in a novel, Ameranthe has raised the bar completely. One of the many reasons I can’t stand authors that write female characters, is the fact that they write them as weak. But you have restored my faith in authors that write female characters as the lead. Ameranthe is strong, smart, sensible (at times), and compassionate; sometimes all in the sentence. Thank you for writing such an awesome series, with unforgettable characters!

  17. Victoria says:

My favorite character is by far Sicarius. H e hilarious in his stoic contrast to Amarnthe, as well as his dry humor. However, what makes him my favorite character is seeing (or rather, reading) his development as a human being, albeit a fictional one. I love to see how he slowly regains his humanity the more that he is around Amaranthe, and realizes that not only can he refrain from killing, but that he can do good, and is deserving of happiness.

  18. Aurora N. says:

Bought my copy as soon as it was available! 🙂

  19. Gwinna says:

“Who is your favorite character?” is kind of a broad question. Favorite character out of the Dragon Blood series, out of Lindsay’s books, out of every work of fiction ever created? If it’s the last option I couldn’t possibly pick just one, if it’s the first I can’t answer since I haven’t read them yet, so I will choose the second option and say that my favorite character is Amaranthe. I love that she is a leader who comes up with crazy plans and inspires people to follow her, and that she is a genuinely decent and admirable person who can see the worth in other people and bring out the best in them. She’s a really awesome character.

  20. Natalie K. says:

Yay, I love giveaways (and the Emperor’s Edge series). My favorite character, aside from Amaranthe, of course, is Books.

  21. Maggie Fitzpatrick says:

Favourite character has got to be Sicarius….but what about Cedar…mmmm Tolemek has nice dreads……BOOKS!!!! That’s it, my favourite character is…..impossible to choose!!! xxx

  22. Ekaterina says:

The contest didn’t let me answer the question so I’m doing it here.

My favorite is Sicarius, because how could he not be? But I also have a love for Maldynado. I feel like he constantly gets the short end of the stick. He does all these things for people and no one notices or cares and then they call him lazy or flighty. I wish there was more of him in the books.

  23. Hannah says:

Oops, I’m not quite sure what happened with the Rafflecopter entry – here’s my reply anyway. 😛

I’m torn between Amaranthe and Sicarius for my favourite EE character, but in the end I think I’ll give Amaranthe the edge. She’s hands down my favourite female character from ANY book/series I’ve read, because she’s exactly what I’ve ever wanted to see in a heroine: bright, intelligent, sensible, with an ever-present sense of humour and innate leadership ability. Amaranthe manages to be strong without needing a tragic backstory or physical prowess; she’s a leader whose plans might be madcap but inspires others to follow her anyway. She’s the glue that made our beloved EE characters a real team. It makes her so easy to like and root for! 😀

Honorary mention goes to Sicarius and his wonderful character growth arc, though; some of his moments in Republic where the impact of Amaranthe on the reawakening of his humanity begins to show are my favourite parts.

  24. Allan says:

    Amaranthe 🙂

  25. Kendra says:

    I love a man in black : )

  26. Oana says:

My favourite EE character is Yara. I like how much inner conflict she has. She’s all opposites and it’s really fascinating to see how she works. I feel like she really wishes she could be more fun and easygoing but the experiences she’s had in her life have ingrained this idea in her that she has to be tough and almost masculine in order to get anywhere in the world. I get the feeling that she both admires and resents Amaranthe for her ability to be feminine and also a leader, and it’s probably those qualities that hold her back. She’s just so interesting to read about!

  27. Aramanthe because I just love her OCD. I so enjoy your books. I look forward to them because I know they will be so good. Thank you for each story!

  28. Momo says:

I must reiterate what has been stated in a couple other posts -Sicarius has the best character development of the entire series. Watching him evolve was the most pleasurable part of this series as a whole. Amaranthe is also wonderful. And finally, gotta pour one out for ol’ Booksie.

  29. Meghan says:

I can’t get enough Sicarius and Amaranthe! Sicarius has shown beautiful character development but Amaranthe started out amazing and just gets better and better!

  30. Meagan says:

Have to say amaranthe is my favourite! Though from dragon’s blood series it would have to be tolemek!

  31. Jacquie says:

    Amaranthe is my favorite!

  32. Chris says:

    My favorite character is Sespian!

  33. Lucile says:

My favorite EE character is Sespian. He has a lot of potential and adventure ahead of him.

  34. Jennifer says:

My favorite character is Amaranthe. I love how now matter how crazy her idea, she usually finds a way to get things to work out. She is the kind of person I would be if only I had the courage!

  35. Maggie W. says:

Favorite characters, cause I can’t choose just one…..definitely Amaranthe, Sicarius, & Maldynado.

Thanks for doing this giveaway. I love the Emperor’s Edge series & have recommended it to friends who also love it.

  36. Cheryl Fernandez says:

Asking me to choose a favourite EE character is like asking me to choose between a glass of wine or a piece of Black Forest Chocolate Cake, both equally impossible.
However, reading one of your books with a glass of wine AND a piece of cake … heaven.

  37. Kayla B says:

I love the whole team, I can’t pick a favorite.

  38. Kevin says:

My favorite EE character is probably Sicarius. His character growth throughout the series was really amazing. Also his relationship with Amaranthe and Basilard are Hi-Larious 😛

  39. Emily Mullaney says:

My favorite EE character…I really don’t know. I like pretty much all of them. Though I would probably jump on the Sicarius bandwagon.

  40. peggy says:

Oh a signed copy of Republic!! I cannot resist 🙂 favorite character is Sicarius! I love when character barely speak!!
the form is not loading on ipad…

3rd book already! you are great for my wishlist 🙂
    keep them coming!!

  41. H W says:

    I am definitely a fan!

  42. Renette says:

I love the EE series, Amaranthe is my favorite character – but it is very hard to choose….

  43. Caily says:

My favorite EE character is Sicarius. There’s just something about a guy who likes his knives more than a pretty girl 🙂

  44. CC says:

It’s impossible to choose between the Emperor’s Edge characters, because they work so well together as a team. Amaranthe put the team together, so I suppose she should be chosen first among equals, but Rias is the choice of the Republic, and Tikaya is a clumsy linguist with attitude, and a bow and arrow. Decisions, decisions…

  45. Mark G says:

My favorite character was Books but now has to be Maldonado as his character is growing and the relationship with Yara has great potential.
Looking forward to seeing more hidden depths and him learning who he truly can be.

Thank you as always for the books and the speed of your writing.

  46. Alice says:

    I can’t decide between Amaranthe and Sespian…

  47. Anna says:

Great, I’ve been looking for something new to read 😀

  48. Mary R says:

My favorite character alone is Maldynado. He’s funny all by himself. My favorite two characters are Sicarius and Amaranthe, for the way they interact.

  49. Michelle McCulloch says:

Sicarius is my most favorite! Thanks for the chance!

  50. Robin says:

I really enjoyed the Emperor’s Edge books—Can’t wait to read your new ones!

  51. Jenn W. says:

For me it changes book to book. At the moment it is Sespian as he’s really coming into his own as a young man.

  52. Elena says:

Amaranthe. Seriously I feel like we’re best friends. I re-read the series when I’m feeling blue and it always cheers me up.

  53. I don’t know if I got the websight thingie right anyways my favorit caricter is books I ABSOLUTLY love his banter and snappy remarks and he seemed the more of a outsider voice looking in on the story some times just a realy awsum caricter

  54. Derek Pritchard says:

Sicarius is by far your best character – he is just soo…..

  55. Cath says:

Would I like a signed copy of Republic? Absolutely!

My favourite character from EE? Rias. I know, he’s more of a secondary character in most of the books, but I took a liking to him in Encrypted and Decrypted, and it carried on through.

Of the main characters, I have to say Sicarious since, for such a competent and self-assured person, he’s a fish-out-of-water once he allies himself with Amaranthe.

    For comic relief, definitely Maldynado.

Now, since I’m posting on here for the first time, I have a question for you: How come Rias wasn’t being called “Rias Komitopis”?

In Encrypted and Decrypted, he was very specific that his name was “just Rias” when anyone asked. He may have been exiled, but he was still loyal to the Empire and it’s traditions. So, since the Emperor had taken away his name and title, he was no longer Fleet Admiral Sashka Federias Starcrest, but the Emperor didn’t take his nickname. Thus the “just Rias.”

When he married Tikaya, I thought that, since he had no family name to give her, she would give him hers.

Or was he running around with that name for the last 20 years, but everyone thought it probably wouldn’t be a very good idea for the Empire’s greatest hero to return bearing the name of someone not of the Empire?

    • Lindsay says:

      Heya Cath,

I figure that most of the Turgonian people who remembered him or had heard of him knew him by his last name (after all, there was that whole book series about him!) so that even if he had tried to introduce himself as something else when he returned, people would have ignored that and called him Starcrest. 😀

  56. Dolores Adair says:

Basilard. I always feel sorry for him.

  57. Julian says:

Got to say, Amaranthe, closely followed by Sicarius. The interplay between the two is excellent and I love the way Amaranthe changes his view of life over the series.

  58. Talia says:

One down, two more to go for September… ;)~

  59. Jae says:

My all time favorite character would be Amaranthe. Seriously. There’s nothing remarkably special about her. She doesn’t have physical prowess like Sicarius, or a genius, or has special privileges because of the class she was born into. And in order to compensate for all that, she utilizes what she does possess, which is her incredible determination and her strong morals, and her ability to come up with wacky plans that Sicarius can’t help but become caught up in.

Sespian would be my second favorite because honestly, in the beginning, I thought he would be a weak character and continue to be manipulated by Hollowcrest. But not even halfway through the first book, Sespian finds out about Hollowcrest’s nefarious plans and tries his best to fight for his power back.

  60. Lily says:

Sicarius is definitely my favorite character, but I like Tikaya a lot too!

  61. Savannah says:

It’s such a tight race between Amaranthe and Sicarius, so I’ll just say both of them. I love both of them so much! The rest of the crew is amazing too.

  62. Debbie Duran says:

How do you pick ONE favorite? Amaranthe, because she is such a strong, independent, intelligent female. Sicarius, because he’s the bad boy & he’s HOT! Maldynado, because he’s so secure in his own skin & not ashamed to tell everyone about it. Etc., etc.

  63. Sandra says:

The EE series is one of my all time favorites. My favorite character is Amaranthe – I love how she can talk people into doing all sorts of things they wouldn’t normally.

  64. Samantha Newbury says:

My favorite character is a toss up between Amaranthe and Sicarius. They are so much fun together. I loved the first few books, but when they eventually got together it was freaking awesome 🙂

  65. Helen says:

In the EE world probably Sicarius because of his dry humour and his character development.

In the Blade’s Edge world probably Ridge because of his unwillingness obey stupid orders and his irreverent sense of humour.

  66. Lulubelle71 says:

    Hi Lindsay (& Readers),
Have just finished Dragon Blood…wow, wow, wow. You can definitely feel the love you have for the characters now. The addition of building a diverse team of people on this adventure, is leaving with me with the same excitement as the amazing EE world has. I cannot wait for Book 4.
As for EE fave character….what a tormenting question!
Maldynaldo is such a character, he reminds me of my son (but without the lady attention as yet) – so has to get my vote. Otherwise its a photo finish for the others. Lindsay you should stop reading this now and get back to writing!

  67. Jaymie says:

Who is my favorite EE character? I would definitely say Amaranthe! She’s brave, creative, witty, but also clumsy and sweet. She is determined to accomplish her task or problem at hand and does whatever it takes to get it done! Plus she can control assassins… 🙂

  68. Maya says:

My favorite character in the EE series is either Amaranthe or Sicarius

  69. Linda V. says:

There are too many memorable characters from the EE series which makes it hard to pick just one… but my top two are Amaranthe and Sicarius. I’m also a big fan of the Flash Gold novellas with Kali and Cedar and can’t wait until this series in out in paperback.

  70. Jess N. says:

I can’t pick a favorite out of so many great, interesting and unique characters in the universes you create. Please keep writing haha I need to keep reading.

  71. Inez says:

My favorite EE character? Definitely Maldynado for his crazy hats!

  72. I’m new to your writing so it’s cool to read the blurb and get acquainted! A new follower.

  73. Dedra says:

I can’t pick between Amaranthe or Sicarius. It just wouldn’t be fair. 😉 I’m enjoying the new series, and I’m excited to read the new one!

  74. PW says:

I don’t think my first attempt to answer this worked, so I will try again!

    BOOKS!!!!
But since that ship has sailed, so to speak, my second favorite is Dak. 😉

  75. Sicarius! Or maybe Amaranthe. Tough one. Love them all actually. Not to mention Sespian’s cat! My reviews for Blood Charge are up, by the way.
    cheers
    gwynn

  76. Southpaw says:

    What a fun cover!

  77. Lindsey says:

My fave in EE is Amaranthe.

In Dragon Blood… maybe Tolemek or Jaxi.

  78. Amanda says:

    I really love Amaranthe.

    And Sicarius. Duh.

  79. Francesca says:

Oh, my favorite EE character is/was/will always be Amaranth. But if Sicarius didn’t exist, I don’t think Amaranth would have been so interesting.

(SPOILER ALERT, if you haven’t read all the EE books, don’t read the rest of the post)

And my second favorite, because he reminded me of someone I knew, was Books. I’ll truly miss him.

  80. Bridget says:

My favorite character would have to be Amaranthe. I never get tired of her wit and, of course, her crazy plans. 🙂

  81. Shelah Heien says:

My favorite character in EE is definitely Sicarius. Of course I love them all.

  82. Jennifer says:

My favorite character from EE series? That is almost impossible, because I loved them all. Books though, was probably my favorite. I loved how he started out as a drunk hopeless grief-filled character, and by the end he wasn’t like that at all, and was so essential to the future of the world that he was a part of. I even liked that he understood Sicarius and they were, well friends isn’t the right word exactly, but you know what I mean.

  83. Michele says:

I love them all! Sicarius really entertained me, if such a thing could be said of him, lol.

  84. April says:

My favorite: Aramanthe ans Sicarius and their developing relationship. My most favorite RIAS and his books. New favorites sardelle, ridge, tolemek and cas. I hope there is more than one book left for this group. Would love to see jaxi have another friend. Please keep writing. PS I also like cedar.

  85. Alina says:

Hmm.. Amaranthe, Sicasius and Jaxi 😀

  86. rebekah says:

Favorite EE character? Books. 🙁 Other fav? Sicarius. Who else? 🙂 I can’t wait to start this new series! You always write so marvelously!

  87. Cecilie Breum says:

My favorite characters are definetly Amaranthe and Sicarius.. A warning though, do not start these book during exam periods

    • rebekah says:

Ah yes, that is excellent advice! I read the 3rd and 4th books during my final exams… yeah I got no sleep at all. 🙂

  88. H W says:

My favorites are Sicarius, Amaranthe, and Maldynado! I love the story of how Sic and Amaranthe developed because of each other, but I also *love* how Maldynado is more than the flop that he pretends to be.

  89. Mary says:

Amaranthe, I can totally relate to her cleaning obsession!

  90. Azure Jeffries says:

It’s so difficult to pick a favorite. These characters have grown and developed throughout these books into people and stories that I can’t put down or stop reading. It amazes me that you’ve created these people that I now love (literally, love to read about!) I have so much respect for that, and how awesome you are to your fans. But, if I were to have to pick I would have to say, Amaranthe. She is the story. Her ideas and scemes are straight comedy to read. Any book that makes you laugh out loud is amazing writing and again I have so much respect for your talent. Can’t wait to read more!

  91. Isabelle says:

My favourite character has to be the Sycarius/Amaranthe duo. I just can’t choose between those two, and anyway they’re at their best when together.
Thanks for writing so many great books and creating characters that I wish we’re real!

  92. Kate C says:

Favorite EE character? Hmm, that’s a hard decision! I love Sicarius and Amaranthe of course but I also really enjoy Basilard’s and Yara’s parts.

  93. Carol Chung says:

My favorite characters are Amaranthe & Sicarius with Tolemek being a a close second. All the character development makes it difficult to pick just one.

  94. Mammy says:

Favourite character: Amaranthe. Not surprising since she’s the biggest heroine. But I also like Mahliki very much!!!

  95. Heather says:

I really love your Republic series. I look forward to reading your others as well!

  96. Ally says:

Amaranthe definitely inspires me to become a righteous person who can solve problems in the most “creative” fashion. Her determination and courage never falters.

  97. Tiffany Hilyer says:

Lindsay I love the EE series and have started Encrypted. Thanks for sharing your wild imagination with the rest of us! 🙂

  98. Samantha says:

My face EE character is Sicarius. The journey he took throughout the series and the way his character developed led to a fabulously happy ending (which I’m a big fan of!)

  99. Maddy says:

One character who hasn’t been mentioned (except when you count the “I love the whole team” posts ; ) and of whom I’d like to read more, is Akstyr.

  100. LindaM says:

Of course I love all the characters, but I’m especially fond of Yara.
