I’ve had quite a few people asking when EE4 (Conspiracy) will be out, so I thought I’d do a quick post to answer that and other common questions (and, by the way, thank you for caring enough to email and ask!).
First off, I just finished the core editing of the manuscript and sent the last third off to beta readers. Once I get their comments back and have tweaked the story to my satisfaction, I’ll send the file off to my editor for proofreading (I’ll also be sending copies out to the folks who donated to my Kickstarter campaign at this time). I’m guessing that’ll be in the third or fourth week of April. My goal is to have Conspiracy live on Amazon, B&N, etc. in the first week of May.
Here are answers to other questions I’ve been getting:
Who will be the secondary POV character in EE4?
Akstyr. The plan is do to Maldynado in the fifth book and Sicarius in the sixth.
How many books total will there be?
I plan to wrap up the current storyline by the end of the sixth book. After that, we’ll see. I have another project I want to move onto, and I’d like to do a sequel to Encrypted eventually, but if people want more books with Amaranthe, Sicarius, and the gang (if they all survive, muahaha!), I might be open to doing further adventures at some point. I enjoy writing these guys. ๐
You’ve been working on Book 4 FOREVER — how long is it?
Okay, nobody said forever (hey, I just published Book 3 in November), but it does feel like I’ve been working on 4 for a while. As I said on Twitter, it’s not a Robert-Jordan-length chihuahua killer, but it’s a good 10,000 words longer than the earlier books, or 125,000 total (though I might snip a few more words in the last editing pass).
When are Books 5 and 6 coming out?
Yes, some eager beaver asked. I’m not sure, but I will start in on Book 5 as soon as I’m done editing 4, and I probably won’t take breaks in between to work on anything else (unless I start going crazy and need a change). The last three EE books are going to be a trilogy of sorts, all part of one bigger story arc, so I want to get them out in a timely manner (so nobody comes after me with torches and pitchforks!).
That’s it for now. I’ll post the cover art soon. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask below. Thanks!
Whee! I’m so excited for book 4!
I can’t express how excited I am excited for this. I am just finishing up Encrypted and I can say I’d not mind a sequel to it as well. Looking forward to it all!
I just need to figure out how to write faster, so I can get everything out there that’s in my head. ๐
*laughs* When I put the comments together (that you were finishing up Akstyre’s book and Maldynado was nagging you for his turn) and realized that meant book 6 would be Sicarius’s POV, I squeed and grinned and have been looking forward to it.
Of course, I also realize that it probably means that Sicarius and Sespian won’t have that conversation until book 6, which would (following prior pattern) make that book spring and therefore fit with that short story “The Frozen Water Trade”, wherein it’s winter and Amaranthe’s known Sicarius for a year and they’re still seeking pardons from the emperor.
Anyway, thanks for the update!
Folks have been asking about Sicarius’s POV for a while, and I’m a little intimidated to write it! Though, Akstyr may have been tougher. Those surly teenage boys can be hard to love. ๐
Yes, that conversation will probably be in Book 6. We’ll see if the actual revelation comes out sooner. They finally get to meet up toward the end of 4.
I may have to update the Frozen Water story at some point. I wrote those short stories after I wrote EE1, and I originally thought the whole series would take place over multiple years, but Amaranthe said she’s better than that and she’ll have everything resolved in one. ๐
Thanks for commenting!
I was so thrilled when I stumbled upon Emperor’s Edge. You are such a wonderful writer and your characters are to die for. I am super excited to read from Sicarius perspective…good things come to those who wait I guess. Happy editing and can’t wait to read!
Thanks, Alysia! We’ll have to see if Sicarius’s perspective is a good thing or not! His humor is a tad dry-to-non-existent. ๐ That’ll be tough for me to write!
First of all, thanks for taking the time to share this info with us. These books have made me like a two-year old waiting for Christmas. Two-year old me will try very hard to be patient.
I’d also like to point out that your projected timeline gets EE4 to me (and everyone else, but mostly this is about me) as a late birthday present or (if it takes a wee bit longer) as an end-of-the-semester reward for slogging through ALL THAT GRADING. So, once again — thanks for feeding my new addiction AND getting me presents. ๐
I’m glad you’re excited for them, Tempest! So, I should wait to publish 4 until you’re done grading? I wouldn’t want to cause delays for your students… ๐
Hurrah! Yes, that’s all I have to say and that’s all I should need to say ๐
Can’t wait for book 4! I’m on spring break right now, and lost three days spent in Stumps (and of course other, um, interesting places)!
P.S. I loved the kraken!
So excited!! this weekend I have read the first three books and came to the website to find out the next one was coming out.
I’m so glad I found your books even though I am neglecting my family.
I’m glad you’re enjoying the books, Rebecca! I’m sure you can catch up the family after finishing Book 4. ๐
Love EE4 cant wait for it to come out on audio!!!!
I have some questions 1st when will Book 5 be out? Can’t handle cliff hangers they drive me insane.
2nd Is Major Pike kin to any two we know?
3rd How fast can you write EE 5 and EE6? ๐
4th Do you think the audio of E4 will be complete by the middle of July? I have to fly back to Germany for the birth of my grand baby. Be nice to have then. “hint, hint”
I cant wait to get the e-book and the audio.
I have shared your series with serveral of my friends and some of my students. They have already become fans.
