Updates on the New Novel (Plus How to Get a Free Copy)

Sunday updates:

Editing of Dark Currents, the second book in what’s becoming The Emperor’s Edge series, is done!

I’ll be sending it off for ebook formatting in the next couple of days. First, I’m working on an Author Q&A to add after the story (last week’s discussion on afterwords inspired me, and I thought it’d be fun to do something extra at the end of the ebook). I have a few questions that I’ve received a number of times that I’m answering, but I’m open to others if anyone wants to ask something soon (like today).

As for how to get a free copy, I mentioned it before, but I’ll do it again because I’m sure not everybody reads every blog post I write:

I’ll be sending out a Smashwords coupon for 100% off, good for a week or so, to those on my mailing list, so sign up now if you’re interested. (Sign-up form in the sidebar on the right.)

Otherwise the price will be…I haven’t decided yet. Thoughts?

Thanks for reading!

Am I already on your mailing list? Maybe I’d better sign up just in case.

Hey, World! Lindsay writes great books. Read her. You won’t regret it.

  2. Hey Lindsay!
I’m already signed up, too (I wasn’t sure if I had, and when I tried to enter my info, it told me that I was).
Anyhoo, I’ll definitely buy ‘Dark Currents’, coupon or no ;). As for price, personally, I’d be willing to pay $9.99 for any of your books (though I wouldn’t recommend that price; ebook readers don’t like it. $4.99 or less I think is the safest route :)).

  3. Lindsay says:

    Thanks, Marva and Jenna!

Hah, no I wasn’t thinking $10. *I* wouldn’t even buy my own books at that price, not for a digital version anyway. Somewhere in the $2.99 to $4.99 range. 😉

  4. Jeanne says:

I can’t wait for this one, given that I missed out on the beta reading. As for price, it would depend on the length of the novel/novella or if it is a short story. Stop that 99cent pricing.

I’m sure I’ve been on your mailing list for a while now. When is EE2 expected for release date?

  5. Eagerly anticipating this one. I just finished Encrypted yesterday, so I’m all ready for a new tale from you. I’m with Jenna on the buying of a copy coupon or not. Support the foundation!

  6. Jon Mac says:

Hey congrats! I also agree with the “support the foundation” idea. EE was just recently promoted from TBR to CBR, so the new one should come out just in time 🙂

  7. Jon Mac says:

Oh, and I love the idea of an Author Q&A. Can’t wait for that!

  8. Katie says:

I feel like a random person – popping up out of nowhere. But alas, prepare yourself for a random person’s thoughts (a random person who has read all of your books).

I’d definitely go with $2.99. Most ebooks I’ve bumped into are $2.99 when they are solely in ebook form. Once your books are in print-form, the price should probably be raised. I’m not sure why this is, however. It’s just what I’ve noticed. And, apparently, I am an expert observer.

Anyway, excited to read Dark Currents!

  9. Lindsay says:

Jeanne, should be out next weekend!

Jon Mac, what’s a CBR? 😉 I’m not sure how fascinating the Q&A will be, but I thought it’d be fun to try a little something extra. I toyed with doing “deleted scenes” (or deleted bits of dialogue), too, but I didn’t have many that I’d saved. I love listening to directors’ commentaries on my favorite DVDs, but I’m not quite sure how I’d do something like that with a novel. 😛

Thanks, Brondt! I’m always happy to be supported, hah. Gotta save pennies for that cartographer!

Katie, thanks for popping in! Random comments are always welcome. 🙂 $2.99 is a pretty popular price point with indie authors since it’s the lowest you can list an ebook for on Amazon/B&N and get the 70% royalty. Ebooks distributed through publishing houses (where there are paperbacks and maybe hardbacks too) tend to be higher priced since there are more middlemen to cut in (though the authors get much smaller royalties).

  10. Angelica says:

I am definitely excited to read the sequel to The Emperor’s Edge! As a buyer and not a writer, I tend to buy the books that are under the $5.00 price range via Amazon.com or BarnesandNoble.com. I shy away from anything that is more then that. Free is always a bonus, but I can see how that doesn’t bring in any money. 😉

  11. m.s. jackson says:

I would pay $10 for the sequel but that might affect your sales. As I am relatively new to the eBook scene, I will leave it to your much better knowledge on the subject.
I am going to send you an email with an idea.

  12. Mary says:

Excellent! I have to hurry up and finish Encrypted so I can get started on this series.

  13. Bookblogger says:

    Hiya Lindsay,

Just finished the book and it was great as I have come to expect from you. You have some of the best characters I have read in a long time and I can’t wait until book 3 especially with who you said the secondary character would be in your Q&A section.

    Scott

  14. Lindsay says:

Thanks, Scott! I better get busy on Book 3, since you’ve already finished 2. 🙂

  15. Josh says:

Well, I got your coupon (I think I may have been the one who got you to start the mailing list when I asked if you had one and you say ‘not yet’ ) but I think I’m gonna give it a pass. Based on your past writing, this definitely deserves compensation, so I’m gonna wait until it’s released on B&N (hopefully for $3.99 or $4.99) and get it for my nook then 🙂

  16. Lindsay says:

Aw, thanks, Josh! Yup, you might have been that guy. 🙂 I uploaded the files to B&N today, so I expect DC to be for sale there tomorrow.
