The Emperor’s Edge in Africa, the Author in Australia

Emperors Edge Goes on SafariBack in October, when I did a paperback giveaway for the first two Emperor’s Edge books, two of the winners ended up being in Africa. After I cried a little over the cost of postage, I decided it was pretty cool that my books would end up on the other side of the world.

One of the winners (*waves Claire*) was even kind of enough to have them photographed out in the wilds of Africa (okay, I think it’s on a street, but that’s still cool).

It’s fun to know the stories are being read in various places around the world.

As for myself, I arrived in Sydney, Australia today. If anyone has recommendations for fun (or geeky) things to do here, let me know. Don’t worry. I won’t let myself get too distracted from working on the next book!

Contact Steven Lewis of talelist.com who lives in or near Sidney. I’m sure that he’d love to do a geek lunch or something. You guys could talk shop. He has a self-publishing blog as you do.

Great, thanks for the head’s up, Peter! That site sounds familiar, so I must have already visited. 🙂

Follow up: his phone number is on his website, I think.

  3. I feel your pain. When I did a draw on my blog, one of the winners was from Finland and another from Suriname. (Strangely enough, one of the winners in the States had his winning package ripped open somewhere in transit and all he got from the post office was an empty envelope and a letter of apology. WTH?)

I love that you’re writing and publishing from the road. I really hope I can do that someday! Have fun in Sydney. 🙂

Ah, more global readers! Yeah, the shipping is a pain, but I like being able to include folks from around the world. I think it’s cool just how easy ebooks are making it for people from everywhere to find your work.

The traveling is fun, but my back is missing my Herman Miller Aeron chair back home (that thing is the best work-related investment I ever made, hah). Take care!

Mailing something to Africa is scary for postage, but that’s very cool that your books are on that continent. And, now they’re in Australia, too! Have fun in the warm Australian sun!

I live just outside of Sydney! Are you still there? You chose a great time to visit! If you haven’t already been you should visit the Rocks’ Markets by Moonlight; if you’re into outdoor theatre and Shakespeare you should check out ‘Sport for Jove’; if you’re here for Christmas there’s Carols in the Domain, if you’re here for January there’s the Sydney Festival that has all sorts of stuff on. There’s also Berkelouw books in Leichardt, with a wine bar and jazz band up in the second hand books section. Anyway, welcome to Australia! Or if you want to sound like a Westy; “Welcome to Austraya!”

    • Lindsay says:

      Thanks for the suggestions, Jess!

I’m here for another week or so. If this rain doesn’t stop, I may head up north sooner than planned though. It’s too much like Seattle (my home) out there right now! 😉
