I’ve been writing and writing since the beginning of NaNoWriMo in November, and I do believe it’s time to take a break and edit something. I have the cover art back for a 12,000-word short story I wrote over Halloween, and my wonderful beta readers have sent back some notes, so I’m going to work on finishing that up this weekend. I’ll still have to send it off to an editor, but I should be able to get it out within a couple of weeks.
The Assassin’s Curse is a stand alone story that will — I hope! — tide Sicarius-and-Amaranthe fans over until Book 4 comes out (I’m still working on the first draft of EE4, but I think I’ll be able to get it out by May). For those who have been waiting patiently for the next Flash Gold story, I’ll be editing that before long too.
Here’s a sneak peek of the cover art for the short story. As I mentioned, I wrote it the week of Halloween, and it’s got that kind of theme.
By the way, my plan is to start out selling the short story for 99 cents so that I can recoup the costs of cover art and editing, but it’ll probably end up being a freebie eventually. If you’d like to get it for free right away, please sign up for my newsletter if you haven’t already (the sign-up form is in the menu on the right). I’ll send out a Smashwords coupon as soon as the story is up over there (you can download file formats for any e-reader at Smashwords).
Wow. That cover really makes you want to know what happened.
Colors pop.
Wow. Just wow. Awesome cover. You can feel what’s in the air here and what waits behind the cover. Makes me wish my Kindle was in color.
Wow that is awesome! Who did the cover?
Thanks, Keith! The artwork is by the same fellow who did the Ice Cracker II cover (here’s his gallery on Deviant Art: http://unrealsmoker.deviantart.com/) and the text was added by Terry at http://www.teryvisions.com/
Honestly, I don’t mind paying the $.99 fee. It’s probably breaking the bank, but certainly worth it. ๐ Looking forward to another one of your super rad adventures.
Thanks, Ashley!
I would be willing to pay way more than $0.99 for your stories! I love all these characters and just can’t seem to get enough.Looking forward to the creepy short story, the cover looks great.
I agree with Ashley. From the cover art I beleive the story will be well worth $0.99. Thank you Lindsay for working so hard for our reading pleasure. ๐
May?? May??? Here I was hoping for March… keep up the good work!
We’ll see. ๐ I’d hate to make promises I’m not sure I can keep!
Yay! Definitely will snag that up as soon as it’s released ๐
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ๐
May! I have to wait till May…..Wahhhhhh! Seriously I love that series. I really am not good at waiting. My favorite scene so far far is when Sicarius comes out of the woods with glowing vomit. That whole conversation that followed cracked me up.
Haha, I’ll try to get it out early, Mariah.
I love the cover.
Great cover art! Really stands out – needs to be on bookshelves for everyone to appreciate!! ๐
That is a knockout cover! Love it ๐
There’s a scene with glowing vomit?? lol I wish I could get through my TBR pile faster! Can’t wait to read that ๐
Oh, boy, what a thing to become infamous for. I’ve had characters pee their names in the snow too. No story should be so serious as not to allow time for such moments. ๐
So many exciting things coming out soon! I can’t wait to read!
Also, oh man, that cover is AWESOME.
No way to give it for free! Your writing is awesome and you deserve to be paid properly. I will pay gladly for your books and I am sure that most of readers will do too.
I canยดt wait for your next one ๐
Take care!
I totally agree she deserves to be paid, I love her books
Thanks, guys! Paying is always an option (lol, of course!), but I like to give away some coupons and freebies to the folks who take the time to sign up for my newsletter. ๐
Beautiful cover. Did your keyboard melt? ๐
Love the cover! Congrats on getting another publication out there!
Gorgeous! That will get you some readers!
I have loved all your books. After downloading The Assassin’s Curse today my husband read it to me and 25 year old daughter. We loved it!!!! It’s full of so much humor which made us laugh throughout it, kept us on the edge of our seats with the drama, and helped tide us over until hopefully May when the next EE book will be out…? We are hooked on all your books. Thanks so much for providing our family such clean family literature to read. I love that thus far your books convey the suggestion (“cursed ancestors” -I LOVE THAT!!!!) of swear words but not the bad language…keep em’ coming. Take good care!!!!
I’m glad the family enjoyed the story, Kelly! Yes, made-up curses are more fun in fantasy. I think Encrypted is the only story I’ve written with real profanity (that one is full of marines, and you know how those military types can be… I used to be one myself ;).
I know lots of folks are waiting for Bk 4, so I’m definitely working on it every day. Thanks for reading and commenting!
