Deadly Games, The Emperor’s Edge Book 3, Is out!

I’m staying at a hostel in Hawaii this week, and it’s been an adventure getting the ebook formatting and the final edits of Deadly Games done while sharing wifi with scads of people (not to mention sharing a room with seven other girls!), but everything is done now, and the ebook is online (I’ll work on getting a paperback version done after the holidays).

As of today, the book is up at Amazon and Smashwords (Smashwords has all e-reader formats available). Update: It’s up at Barnes & Noble now too.

You can also read the first chapter on my site right here.

I’ll be at sea and without a lot of internet access for the next two and a half weeks (I’m on my way to Australia in case anyone in Sydney, Perth, or Melbourne wants to say hi this winter — er, summer there — when I’m passing through), but I’ll be doing lots of writing out there. I’m working on the third Flash Gold story now, and I’m getting excited to start the fourth Emperor’s Edge novel too.

As always, thanks for checking out the books and sharing my characters’ adventures. If you’re stumbling onto this blog for the first time, you can check out Ice Cracker II and Flash Gold for free right now.

  1. Congrats Lindsay! Happy release day ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. Aly says:

SWEET! So exciting! Glad it made it out before Thanksgiving!! Now I just have to try to balance Nano and my reading… ha.

  3. K Gorman says:

I hope you know this will be the reason I won’t finish NaNoWriMo.

    Definitely excited to read it!

    • Lindsay says:

Hey, now, no using me for an excuse. ๐Ÿ˜‰ It’ll take me months to get the next one out, so no hurry to read it!

      • K Gorman says:

Too late. Finished it. =D And don’t worry–I never finish Nano. November just happens to be the month that has all the research paper and important test writing. I’m sure I write 50k words, but not so much for a novel. I have gotten a lot of progress done on one of my projects, though…

  4. m.s. jackson says:

Great job! Man, you sure can pump out excellent stories with amazing speed. I still have not gotten around to the second book, but I snagged this one for the future.

    • Lindsay says:

Thanks, MS! I’m trying to get one out every six months. ๐Ÿ˜‰ I think I’d make it easier on myself if I wrote shorter books, but the best laid plans never seem to manifest… (I thought this would be a shorter one and it ended up longer than the first two.)

  5. KSwenson says:

So I finished the book this afternoon, and I posted my first amazon review ever on this one, hopefully it will show up soon!

I bought it from the email link and downloaded it as my train was leaving Penn Station in NYC yesterday afternoon. Stupid tunnel under the Hudson interrupted my phone’s download too. I had to wait ten whole minutes before I could start it. Horrors!

Sometimes, I really love living in the future. Even without my flying car.

    • Lindsay says:

Haha, do you actually read books on your phone? I’ve done a few samples on the iPhone, but my eyes like a bigger screen. I’ve usually got my kindle with me most of the time.

Thank you for taking the time to write up the nice review!

      • KSwenson says:

I read Tad Williams’s Shadowheart on my old 2nd-gen iPhone and that’s what finally convinced me to get a Kindle. I was never sure if I could read a whole book on a machine and here i was, reading a doorstop of a book on a backlit, postage stamp-sized screen.

Usually I have my kindle on me for train reading, but I was carrying around my new (paper) Rothko book instead.

And my pleasure on the review. There’s nothing like NaNoWriMo to get me to write! Not just for the procrastination, but for the get it done, don’t overanalyze it effect.

Oh, and your recent company in the “read it twice right away” club: Chabon’s Yiddish Policemen’s Union; Borges’s Labyrinths; Whitehead’s The Intuitionist. I like literary genre. It appears that I’m a snooty little snowflake!

        • Lindsay says:

Oh, man, a Tad Williams book on the iPhone. That’s a dedicated reader. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Those do sound like some pretty intellectual reads there. Glad you can un-snoot enough to hang with my gang!

      • KSwenson says:

Also, how did you find boat access to Australia? Is it a cruise? or standard passage? That sounds like so much more fun. Years ago I’d researched ship passage across the Atlantic, because I thought it would be a neat adventure, but the whole job bit got in the way.

        • Lindsay says:

I got a good “last minute” deal on a cruise from Honolulu to Sydney, so it was almost cheaper than flying from Seattle.

I looked into the freighter passages, too, thinking that sounded a little cooler for a roaming writer, but they’re surprisingly expensive. I think it used to be an inexpensive way to travel, but then they wised up and realized they could charge more, heh.

  6. Glad to hear it — Can’t wait to check this one out!

  7. Ty Johnston says:

    Very nice. Love the cover.

  8. Sara Meehan says:

Loved it. It’s amazing that you can come up with books of such quality in so little time.

I don’t usually review books on Amazon, but you’ve said before that it helps you, so I did.

I have a couple of plot questions but I don’t want to spoil anyone. What do you suppose is the acceptable length of time to wait before asking? (… after the next book is released? lol!)

    • Lindsay says:

Thanks for taking the time to post a review, Sara!

You can always send me an email if you have questions (contact form there, or BurokerL AT comcast DOT net). I have to admit, I figure a lot of things out as I go, though, so I may not have a good answer yet. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  9. Matt says:

I have over three-hundred fiction books and this is still one of my tops, up there with the various Dragon Lance authors. Thank you for you time devoted to writing these pieces of literature.

  10. Dawn Rodriguez says:

Loved your new book. I’m a big Amaranthe & Sicarious fan. Keep up the great work. I will continue to support your efforts.

    • Lindsay says:

Thanks for reading, Dawn! Sicarius has a surprising number of fans, given his less than amiable personality. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  11. Lily says:

I’ve bought and read it, and loved it naturally. I’m a great fan of your books!

And I already want the next one. Any idea when your e.t.a. might be?

    • Lindsay says:

Thanks, Lily! I’m just now brainstorming plot stuff for Book 4 and planning to start writing in December, so probably not until summer for the next one.

  12. Just wanted to say that I’m so impressed with your books, and love your style! I am also impressed with your self-editing. Wish you wrote for us!
Can’t wait for the next installment of The Emperor’s Edge…or Flash Gold, whichever comes first!

  13. Jennifer says:

I also posted a review on amazon, basically saying, “buy the series, already.”

LOVED, Deadly Games, Lindsay. My favorite in the series so far.

Open question to everybody–are there any EE forums out there for fan discussion?

    • Lindsay says:

Thanks for posting a review, Jennifer!

I’m sure I’m too new of an author to have any fan forums yet, but maybe I’ll add something to the site when I get time. Always fun to get fantasy lovers together and see what they talk about. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  14. Amelia Augustine says:

Thanks so much for the great entertainment … I’m always waiting for the next time I can hear more !! Hope all Emperor’s Edge get onto Podiobooks !!!
