Dark Currents Audiobook Update

I posted last week that the Dark Currents audiobook was up over at Podiobooks, but mentioned that it had been posted in its entirety. At the time I thought that was a mistake that would be fixed (the MO for Book 1 was for new chapters to go up once a week), but it looks like they’ve changed the way they do things over at Podiobooks, and they’re posting the entire audiobook in one day for everyone. If I wanted to do things that way, I’d remove all the intros and outros and simply post the entire audiobook file in one mp3 on my site.

I want to continue running the books as a weekly podcast, sort of like the old radio dramas. I think I have more opportunity to snag new listeners/readers that way. So, I’ve purchased a hosting account over at Libsyn.com, and I’ll be running the feed from my site. It shouldn’t change much on your end. The podcast/audiobook will still show up in iTunes, and you’ll be able to subscribe to the feed if you aren’t an Apple person.

This will take a few days to get up and rolling, so I thank you for your patience.

  1. This is a very recent change, last month or so. Evo talked about it in the Podiobooks newsletter. He’s also encouraging writers/producers to move toward selling audiobook versions through ACX.

So I’m learning. 😛 My account has never been linked to my books over there, because Darkfire Productions handles the uploading of files, and I’m totally out of the loop as far as newsletters go, so it was quite the shock to me to see that all the chapters had been released at once.

I always wanted to give the audiobooks away for free for self-promotion purposes and have very little interest in Audible. Part of the “fun” of doing it podcast style is that I get to do a little plugging and promoting each week for each new episode. Having it all dropped at once…enh.

Honestly, I should have just run the feed through my site to start with, as I never would have had to worry about a third party changing the rules on me, but live and learn, eh.

Do you record the podcast yourself or use a service to record your podcasts/audiobooks?

    • Lindsay says:

No, I don’t have the patience for editing or the voice talent for reading, so Darkfire Productions handles it. Starla Huchton is the narrator if you want to check her out (she has her own book out there too).

  3. Jason Spears says:

Starla Huchton does an excellent job with the narration. I’m very interested in Lindsay’s books and any other books read by her. (The excellent story in Emperor’s Edge certainly helped kindle my interest in Lindsay’s works as well.)

  4. Michael says:

Lindsay, I just found your works through Podiobooks, and I’m loving them! Will all the EE books be published as podiobooks eventually?

    • Lindsay says:

Thanks for listening to them, Michael! EE3 is in the works, and I have Kickstarter money set aside to do 4 as well. 🙂

      • Michael says:

Fantastic! =) Im really enjoying the series – just coming to the end of EE1. Looking forward to Dark Currents and beyond. Thanks for sharing your talent!
